A Closer Look At Cody Ransom
When asked who my favorite Diamondbacks player is, I typically respond “I like them all”; but there are certain players I follow a little bit more closely than others. One of those players is Willie Bloomquist, because he played for the Arizona State Sun Devils and I am a big fan of the Sun Devils baseball program. The other player that I follow closely is former Grand Canyon Antelope, Cody Ransom. There have been a few players from the very successful Grand Canyon University baseball program who have had a chance to play in the major leagues. Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Dave Stapleton was on the Antelopes National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championship team in 1982. Other former Antelopes were California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels outfielder Tim Salmon and former outfielder with several teams (most notably) the California Angels and NY Yankees, Chad Curtis.
Cody Ransom has spent time with several teams and is currently in his second season with the Diamondbacks. Cody went to Chandler High School and South Mountain Community College. From there he went to Mesa State (now known as Colorado Mesa University), helping the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II regional. Ransom transferred to Grand Canyon University for the 1998 season and was a key member of the Antelopes team. The Grand Canyon University Antelopes won the Western Athletic Conference Northern Division that year.
Cody has played in over 1500 minor league games. In the major league Cody has played for the San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and your Arizona Diamondbacks.
Ransom made the last putout in Yankee Stadium history. He is also one of only three Yankees to hit a home run while serving as a pinch hitter.
Now you will know just a little more about #1 Cody Ransom when you see him at 3rd base! I hope to see you at the ballpark. The Arizona Diamondbacks are back at Chase Filed starting on May 7th when the St Louis Cardinals come to town.
