AZ Diamondbacks New 3rd Baseman
Although he was surprised at the trade to the Arizona Diamondbacks; newly acquired 3rd baseman Chris Johnson is fitting in nicely with his new team. Johnson, who joined the Diamondbacks on July 30 after being acquired in a trade with the Houston Astros, has hit five homeruns and 15 RBI(s) in his eight starts at 3rd base. That’s the most home runs any player has ever had in their first eight games with the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks 3rd base position had been among the lowest in run production in the major leagues before trading for Johnson
Johnson hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 10-4 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Look at Johnson’s stats; he has homered for the cycle since joining the Diamondbacks; he hit a grand slam and a solo shot in a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers last week; and he hit a two-run shot at Philadelphia on Saturday and then a three run shot last night.
Before joining the Diamondbacks Johnson hit eight home runs in 341 at-bats with Houston. All of those homeruns were at home in Minute Maid Park. All five of his Diamondbacks home runs have come on this ten game road trip. With two more games at Pittsburgh, can he hit a few more on this road trip, before he makes his home debut in front of the Diamondbacks fans? I am sure he will receive a very warm welcome from the fans. Remember the Diamondbacks come home for a brief three game home stand starting on Friday August 10th. The first place Washington Nationals come to Chase Field. Then it is back out on the road to play the St Louis Cardinals and Johnson’s former team the Houston Astros. I hope to see you at the ballpark.
