MLB: Marlins hire Mike Redmond as new manager

The Miami Marlins, fresh off a disappointing 2012 season, have hired Mike Redmond to be their manager.

Redmond, 41, a former catcher, spent seven season behind the plate for the Marlins. He also spent time with the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians during his playing career.

Redmond had spent the last two seasons managing the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League.

Redmond’s deal with the Marlins, is for three years, as he replaces Ozzie Guillen, who was fired last month. Guillen only managed the Marlins for one season.
