MLB: McGwire set to become next Dodgers hitting coach
Mark McGwire is on the verge of being named hitting coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, McGwire has informed the St. Louis Cardinals that he intends on accepting an offer from the Dodgers.
McGwire had been the Cardinals hitting coach for the past three seasons and during that time the Cardinals bats have definitely been alive, as they had one of the National League’s best offenses under McGwire. During his time in St. Louis as hitting coach, the Cardinals ranked second in the NL in runs scored.
The former USC star, retired as a player after the 2001 season with 583 career home runs. McGwire currently lives in Orange County, and it is expected that his decision is due to being closer to his family.
