MLB: Mets and Jason Bay move on

The New York Mets and outfielder Jason Bay have parted ways. The Mets and Bay agreed to an early expiration of his contract, making Bay a free agent.

Bay, 34, had been one of the league’s more productive outfielders from 2004-2009, but after joining the Mets as a free agent prior to the 2010 season, his offensive production has declined immensely. While Bay did battle injury, he only hit 26 home runs in three seasons with the Mets.
