Wade Miley….Who? Wade Miley!!!
While the baseball world is talking about the Texas Rangers Yu Darvish as the top rookie pitcher in baseball, the Diamondbacks fans continue to cheer for another rookie pitcher, one of their own who has suddenly become the teams “go to” guy; his name is Wade Miley. Miley was the NL Rookie Pitcher of the month for April. He led all NL rookie pitchers with a 3-0 record and 1.29 ERA.
The team has had to rely on Miley and he has responded with a 5-1 record and a 2.14 ERA in 46 innings. The left-hander has allowed three runs or less in five of his six starts this season. He has also racked up 27 strikeouts. Miley will look to pick up his third straight win when he makes his next start, which is scheduled for Saturday May 26th against the Brewers.( I will be at the ballpark to cheer him on) He is also hitting .375 with 2 runs scored. Even though Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals is considered to be the front runner for NL Rookie of the year; Miley is a contender for NL Rookie of the Year honors as well. Manager Kirk Gibson will have a difficult decision to make when Daniel Hudson returns.
Coming out of spring training Miley was not even projected to make the team, but Takashi Saito got hurt and eventually was put on the disabled list with a right calf strain. Miley was added as a long reliever before replacing Josh Collmenter in the starting rotation. Miley has stepped in as a solid addition to the Diamondbacks starting rotation.
This Diamondbacks open up a 6 game home-stand starting May 21st for 3 games against the first place Dodgers; then the Brewers come to town for 3 games. I hope to see you at the ballpark.
